Nato in Australia nel 1957 da una famiglia di religione anglicana e trasferitosi a Londra all'inizio degli anni Ottanta, dagli esordi underground con i Birthday Party fino alla maturità compositiva e musicale raggiunta con i Bad Seeds, da sempre Cave si porta dietro la fama di maledetto. Oggi è un artista maturo, equilibrato, intelligente, che ha saputo elevare il rock ad una dignità letteraria recuperando la lezione dei grandi del passato e sintetizzandola in una forma espressiva davvero moderna, sia per linguaggio, che per sintassi musicale. Le sue ballate oscure e lucenti come la pioggia, sinuose e raffinate, venate di un'invincibile malinconia, dominate dalla sua voce profonda come un abisso sono in grado di avvicinarci agli ordinari misteri dell'esistenza. Born in Australia in 1957 in an Anglican family, he moved to London in the early Eighties. From his underground debut with the Birthday Party well into his musical and creative maturity with the Bad Seeds, Cave has always been labelled a damned musician. Today he is the mature, poised, and intelligent artist who gave rock music a literary dignity, learning from the great masters of the past and giving them a new, modern expressive form both through his lyrics and his musical phrases. His obscure and shining ballads dominated by the deep low tones of his voice have a sensuously refined sound and share a common melancholic vein, which seem to bring us closer to the mysteries of existence. He is a very charismatic performer who in his concerts offers a host of emotions: rhythm, tension, stunning ballads, cold and hot sweat and poetry. Among all artists, King Ink Nick Cave embodies best the Eighties' contradictions and anguish, suspended between poetry and the urgency of rock music. At the turn of the millennium the loner Australian is definitely one of the most appealing songwriters in a music world, which is often ephemeral and commercial.
