Cornelia Funke è una delle più amate scrittrici tedesche. Svolti gli studi di Pedagogia presso l'Università di Amburgo, l'autrice si occupa per tre anni di bambini con disagio sociale e contemporaneamente lavora come illustratrice di libri per l'infanzia. Tra gli anni '80 e '90 inizia a dedicarsi anche alla scrittura di storie per lo più di avventura e di genere fantasy ottenendo un buon successo in Germania e facendosi conoscere poi anche a livello europeo, nel 1996 con "Il cavaliere dei draghi" e nel 2000 con "Il re dei ladri". Sono però "Cuore d'inchiostro" nel 2003 e il suo seguito "Veleno d'inchiostro" nel 2005 a guadagnarle ben due Book Sense Book of the Year Children's Literature, prestigioso premio conferito dall'American Booksellers Association, e a consacrarla, a detta di "The Times", come la J.K. Rowling tedesca. Recentemente dal best seller "Cuore d'inchiostro", tradotto in più di venti lingue, è stato tratto anche un film, "Inkheart", interpretato tra gli altri da Brendan Fraser e dal premio oscar Helen Mirren. A completare la trilogia inaugurata da "Cuore d'inchiostro", nel 2008 Cornelia Funke pubblica "Alba d'inchiostro".
Born in Dorsten in 1958, Cornelia Funke is one of Germany's most loved writers. After completing her studies in Pedagogy at the University of Hamburg, the authoress dealt with children with social difficulties for three years while working as a children's book illustrator. Between the 80s and 90s she started dealing with writing stories, mostly adventurous and fantasy, obtaining success in Germany and later in Europe with her 1996's "Dragon Rider" followed by "Inkspell" in 2005, which won her two Book Sense Book of the Year Children's Literature Prizes, a prestigious award by American Booksellers Association, establishing her, as "The Times" put it, as Germany's J.K. Rowling. Recently, her best selling "Inkheart", translated in over twenty languages, has been turned into a film, "Inkheart", with Brendan Fraser and Oscar winning Helen Mirren. "Inkdawn" (2008) finishes the trilogy started with "Inkheart".
