Brendan O'Carroll nasce nel 1955 a Dublino in una modesta famiglia operaia ultimo di undici fratelli. Lasciata a dodici anni la scuola, inizia a fare i lavori più disparati dal cameriere all'imbianchino, ma è il palcoscenico ad attrarlo e così inizia ad esibirsi prima in bar e in locali per cabaret, poi entra in una compagnia teatrale interpretando per lo più commedie. L'anno di svolta è il 1993 quando appare nello spettacolo "Late, Late Show", un importante programma irlandese trasmesso settimanalmente anche da Channel 4 in Gran Bretagna. La sua popolarità ha una vera e propria impennata e cominciano a moltiplicarsi gli spettacoli teatrali, le apparizioni in televisione e le trasmissioni radiofoniche. A fine anni '90 si cimenta anche nella scrittura esordendo con "The Mammy", una storia ricca di humour, a cui seguono "The Chisellers" e "The Granny". Visto il successo di pubblico, dal primo libro della trilogia è stato tratto anche un film "Agnes Browne", interpretato da Anjelica Huston. In Italia i suoi primi due romanzi, pubblicati inizialmente da Giano, sono stati riediti nel 2008 da Neri Pozza insieme al terzo "Agnes Browne nonna" e al quarto "Agnes Browne ragazza".
Brendan O'Carroll was born in Dublin in 1955 from a humble working class family, the youngest of eleven brothers. After leaving school, he began to do all sorts of jobs, from waiter to decorator, but he was drawn to the stage, so he started performing in bars and night clubs and then he joined a theatre company, acting mostly in comedies. 1993 was his breakthrough year when he acted in "Late, Late, Show", an important Irish programme broadcast weekly by Channel 4 in the UK. He became very popular and started appearing in many theatre plays, radio and TV programmes. In the late 90s he also experimented with writing, making his debut with "The Mammy", a highly humorous story, followed by "The Chisellers" and "The Granny".Thanks to his popularity, the first book of the trilogy was adapted for the screen as "Agnes Browne", with Anjelica Huston. In Italy, his first two books initially published by Giano, have been republished by Neri Pozza in 2008 together with his third book "Agnes Browne nonna".
