Eletto nel 2012 Fellow della British Academy, Harry Collins (1943) si è interessato per oltre trent'anni di fisica delle particelle e di fisica della gravitazione, focalizzando i suoi studi di sociologia e sociologia della scienza sulle modalità di elaborazione, confronto e condivisione dei dati all'interno della comunità scientifica. Tra i suoi libri più rinomati vanno annoverati "Changing Order. Replication and Induction in Scientific Practice" (1985), "Artificial experts" (1990) e "The Golem" (1993), un saggio - vincitore del Robert K. Merton Book Prize - che enuclea una serie di intriganti scoperte avvenute in diversi ambiti dello scibile, ridimensionando il punto di vista secondo cui la scienza sia sempre il risultato diretto di teorie, osservazioni ed esperimenti svolti con competenza. Elected a Fellow of the British Academy in 2012, Harry Collins (1943) has worked for more than 30 years on particle physics and the physics of gravitation, focusing his studies on sociology and the sociology of science on ways of processing, comparing and sharing data within the scientific community. Among his best-known books are "Changing Order. Replication and Induction in Scientific Practice" (1985), "Artificial experts" (1990) and "The Golem" (1993), an essay - winner of the Robert K. Merton Book Prize - which sets out a series of intriguing discoveries made in different spheres of knowledge, resizing the view that science is always the direct result of theories, observations and competently executed experiments. More recently, Collins has sought to offer a more precise description of the processes of interaction and legitimacy that exist between civil society and the scientific community, developing the concept of 'Interectional Expertise' alongside his colleague Robert Evans. He is currently Distinguished Research Professor at Cardiff University, where he coordinates the Centre for the Study of Knowledge Expertise and Science.
