Alan Bradley è nato a Toronto ed è cresciuto nella cittadina lacustre di Cobourg, in Ontario. Dopo una lunga carriera come ingegnere televisivo, ha ottenuto il pensionamento anticipato dalla University of Saskatchewan e si è dedicato a tempo pieno alla narrativa, risultando il primo autore per ragazzi a essersi aggiudicato il Saskatchewan Writers Guild Award. Ha scritto per diversi anni nell'isola maltese di Gozo e ora vive e lavora nell'Isola di Man, nel Mar d'Irlanda. Editorialista di costume e cultura su giornali canadesi, ha pubblicato racconti per bambini e adulti, molti dei quali sono stati trasmessi in radio dalla CBC e pubblicati in varie riviste letterarie. I suoi testi più rinomati sono senz'altro i romanzi che hanno come protagonista Flavia de Luce, una ragazzina di nobile lignaggio dotata di un naturale talento per le indagini poliziesche e la chimica. Alan Bradley was born in Toronto and grew up in the lakeside town of Cobourg, Ontario. After a long career as a television engineer, he took early retirement from the University of Saskatchewan and has since devoted himself full-time to fiction writing, becoming the first children's author to have won the Saskatchewan Writers Guild Award. He has written for several years on the Maltese island of Gozo and he now lives and works in the Isle of Man, in the Irish Sea. He also works as a columnist on habits and culture for Canadian newspapers, he has published short stories for children and adults, many of which were broadcast on the radio by CBC and published in various literary magazines. His most famous works are undoubtedly the novels featuring Flavia de Luce, a girl of noble lineage with a natural talent for investigations and chemistry. The series (all "New York Times" bestsellers, translated into more than thirty languages) nods to Sherlock Holmes and other fictional crime heroes, and has frequent references to Gothic literature. The Oscar-winning director and producer Sam Mendes ("American Beauty", "Skyfall") has optioned the rights for a television adaptation of the series.
