«Deciso, forte, sereno. Lui è il vero signore del legno», ha scritto Marco Belpoliti su "Repubblica", e questa definizione risponde certamente al passaporto di Lars Mytting (Favang, 1968), scrittore e giornalista norvegese conosciuto in tutto il mondo per il caso editoriale "Norwegian wood" (2016), un manuale su come tagliare e accatastare il legno che ha portato nuovamente in auge l'antica arte dei taglialegna. Attraverso il legno, Mytting è riuscito a raccontare in modo inedito le genti del Nord Europa, la loro innata pazienza e il grande amore che nutrono per la natura, firmando una vera e propria «lezione zen» di distacco dalla quotidianità. Il libro, tradotto in sedici lingue e premiato con una pioggia di riconoscimenti, è anche un'ideale autobiografia dell'autore, inscindibile dalla sua passione: l'amore per il legno risale infatti alla prima infanzia e alla lezione di vita tramandatagli dai suoi anziani vicini di casa, capaci di vincere la cupezza e rasserenarsi solo dopo aver accatastato la legna. Grazie a questo insegnamento, da bambino Lars ha iniziato a fare costruzioni con piccoli cubetti; e se da adolescente amava il fuoco, ora apprezza la pace e la serenità della natura. Nel 2017 esce il romanzo "Sedici alberi", premiato dall'Associazione dei Librai Norvegesi.

He is the true lord of wood», wrote Marco Belpoliti in "Repubblica", and this definition certainly corresponds to Lars Mytting (Favang, 1968), writer and journalist known all over the world for the publishing phenomenon "Norwegian Wood" (2016), a manual on how to cut and stack wood that brought the ancient art of the woodcutter back into the limelight. Through wood, Mytting has managed to speak in an unprecedented way about the peoples of Northern Europe, their innate patience and the great love they have for nature, a veritable "zen lesson" detachment from everyday life. The book, which has been translated into sixteen languages and rewarded with a shower of accolades, is also effectively the author's autobiography, inseparable from his passion: his love for wood dates to his childhood and was handed down to him by elderly neighbours, able to overcome gloom and calm down only after stacking wood. Thanks to this teaching, Lars began making constructions with small cubes; and if he loved fire as a teenager, he now appreciates the peace and serenity of nature. In 2017, he released the novel "The Sixteen Trees of the Somme", awarded by the Norwegian Booksellers Association.
