Museo Virgiliano

Il museo è nato nel 1981 in occasione del bimillenario del poeta e ospita due collezioni donate da cittadini di Virgilio: quella delle opere del pittore Ugo Celada (1895-1995) e quella archeologica di Vincenzo Prati. La sezione di archeologia contiene collezioni preistoriche/archeologiche (corredi tombali, terrecotte; (materiali di insediamento): vetri, monete, terrecotte, osso, corno, selce. Una biblioteca, un laboratorio di preparazione, cataloghi a stampa e guide, una sala per proiezioni e conferenze, diversi laboratori didattici, gigantografie, pannelli, cartografie, audiovisivi sono a disposizione dei visitatori.
Owned by the local Council the Virgilian Museum is located at 34, Via Roma, Pietole. Its Department of Archaeology has been established in 1979 featuring pre-historic / archaeological collection -namely tomb garments and pottery; pieces of work made of bone, horn, glass and flint. You can also see some ancient pottery and coins.
All exhibits are stored up at first floor (about 540 sq. feet large). Outdoor areas are a museum themselves. Every corner of the museum is easily accessible perambulation challenged persons.
Strolling around the museum area you will find a library and a preparation laboratory, catalogues and guide books, a movie and conference room. Life-size pictures, charts, display panels and multimedia equipment are available to everybody.
