Palazzo Soardi, Sala degli Stemmi
Via Pietro Frattini, 60, Mantova
Palazzo Soardi complex, later known as Taxis della Torre is located in Cotrada della Rovere and was originally abode for a patrician family from Bergamo who held a top postion in the Gonzagas' state. Its core of the building was probably a building in gothic-style that the Soardi family bought between the end of 15th and the beginning of the 16th century and that was enlarged several times: the signs of the the many changes as well as extensions it underwent (which can be clearly seen) show that it originally had not been planned as a whole building. Although at the beginning of the 17th century some small parts of the abode had not been built yet, its structure had already made up of two blocks. Along the façade as well as the flank you find a drip - stone that unifies the dissimilarities of the palace. Inside the palace you may admire several halls decorated with frescos dating back to the 16th century. On the nobile floor you find the Sala degli Stemmi, which can be reached directly from the stairs located at 60, Frattini street. Originally the room was wholly decorated; the paintings were divided into three registers characterized by fanciful elements of false architecture. The room is named after the twele (now only nine) heraldic arms that decorated the room. Since 1852 Palazzo Soardi complex is owned by the Mantuan City Council an the Sala degli Stemmi can be used to host meetings, presentation or other nitiative of different kind.
