Jonathan Carroll è cresciuto a New York City: il padre era uno sceneggiatore di successo di film per Hollywood, mentre la madre era una attrice di Broadway. Carroll ha frequentato la Loomis School, in Connecticut e si è laureato alla Rutgers University nel 1971. Lo stesso anno si è sposato con l'attrice Beverly Schreiner. Dopo aver seguito il programma master all'University of Virginia e aver insegnato per due anni inglese al liceo, Carroll si è trasferito a Vienna dove ha iniziato a insegnare inglese all'American International School. Vive tuttora a Vienna, città dove trova spunto di ispirazione letteraria e si dedica alla scrittura a tempo pieno. E' autore di oltre una dozzina di romanzi e diverse raccolte di racconti; è stato nominato nove volte per il World Fantasy Award e quattro volte per il British Fantasy Award; il suo racconto "Friend's Best Man" (1988) e la sua collezione "Tu e un quarto" hanno vinto un Bram Stoker Award; con il romanzo "Outside the Dog Museum" (1991) ha vinto un British Fantasy Award. Considerato tra i più originali e visionari scrittori viventi, vanta fan del calibro di Stephen King, Jonathan Lethem, Sting, Neil Gaiman e James Ellroy.
Born on 26th January 1949, Jonathan Carroll grew up in New York City. His father was a successful scriptwriter for Hollywood and his mother was a Broadway actress. Carroll went to Loomis School in Connecticut and graduated at Rutgers University in 1971. In the same year he married the actress Beverly Schreiner. After obtaining his Master's degree from the University of Virginia and after teaching English at High School for two years, Carroll moved to Vienna where he started teaching English at the American International School. He currently lives in Vienna, where he finds his literary inspiration and devotes himself to full-time writing. He has written a dozen novels and several series of short stories; he has been nominated nine times for the World Fantasy Award and four times for the British Fantasy Award. His story "Friend's Best Man" (1988) and his collection "The Panic Hand" (1995) won him one Bram Stoker Award. With his novel "Outside the Dog Museum" (1991) he won one British Fantasy Award. Regarded as amongst one of the most original and visionary living writers, he boasts high calibre fans such as Stephen King, Jonathan Lethem, Sting, Neil Gaiman and James Ellroy.
