Denise Epstein è la figlia della scrittrice franco-ucraina Irène Némirovsky, famosa a Parigi tra gli anni Venti e Trenta e deportata ad Auschwitz nel 1942, dove morì di tifo. Dopo un'infanzia segnata dalla morte dei genitori e dalla fuga per salvarsi dalla persecuzione antisemita, si è dedicata alla scrittura curando l'edizione delle opere della madre. Prima della deportazione Irène Némirovsky aveva affidato alle figlie una valigia contenente il suo ultimo romanzo rimasto incompiuto e Denise lo ha pubblicato nel 2004 per Denöel con il titolo "Suite Françoise" premiato con il prestigioso Prix Renaudot. Nel 2008 la Epstein ha scritto "Survivre et vivre", la sua biografia, in cui racconta la difficoltà di rapportarsi alle opere della madre scomparsa precocemente e l'importanza quasi terapeutica che ha avuto per lei seguire l'edizione di "Suite Françoise".
Muore il primo aprile del 2013.
Born in Paris in 1929, Denise Epstein is the daughter of the French-Ukrainian writer Irène Némirovsky, famous in Paris in the 20s and 30s and deported to Auschwitz in 1942, where she died from typhoid. After a childhood marked by her parents' death and by her running away from the anti-Semitic persecutions, she devoted herself to writing, editing her mother's work. Before being deported, Irène Némirovsky had entrusted her daughter with a suitcase containing her latest unfinished novel which Denise published in 2004 for Denöel entitled "Suite Françoise" which won the prestigious Prix Renaudot. In 2008 Epstein wrote "Survivre et vivre", her biography, where she tells of her difficulties in relating to her mother's work and the almost therapeutic importance for her in following up the edition of "Suite Françoise".
She died in 2013.
