Iona Heath, medico, ha lavorato dal 1975 presso il Caversham Group Practice di Kentish Town, nella zona di Camden, uno dei quartieri più poveri di Londra. Da oltre vent'anni membro del Council of the Royal College of General Practitioners, ora ne è presidente; dal 1997 al 2003 ha presieduto l'Health Inequalities Standing Group e dal 1998 al 2004 il Committee on Medical Ethics. Dal 1997 al 1999 ha fatto parte della Royal Commission on Long Term Care for the Elderly e dal 2004 al 2007 della Human Genetics Commission. Ha presieduto l'Ethics Committee del British Medical Journal. È autrice di vari saggi, tra cui "The Mystery of General Practice" (1996) e - in collaborazione con Patricia E. Hutt e Roger Neighbour - "Confronting an Ill Society: David Widgery", "General Practice", "Idealism and the Chase for Change" (2004). "Modi di morire" (Matters of Life and Death, Radcliffe Publishing, London 2007), il suo primo libro tradotto in italiano, è la descrizione di un viaggio verso la morte accompagnati dalle parole di poeti, scrittori e pensatori.
Iona Heath, a doctor, worked since 1975 at Caversham Group Practice in Kentish Town, in the Camden area, one of London's poorest areas. She has been a member of the Council of the Royal College of General Practitioners for over twenty years, now she is the President; from 1997 to 2003 she headed the Health Inequalities Standing Group and from 1998 to 2004 the Committee on Medical Ethics. From 1997 to 1999 she was a member of the Royal Commission on Long Term Care for the Elderly and from 2004 to 2007 of Human Genetics Commission. She has been chairman Ethics Committee of the British Medical Journal. He authored several essays including "The Mystery of General Practice" (1996) and in collaboration with Patricia E. Hutt and Roger Neighbour - "Confronting an Ill Society: David Widgery", "General Practice", "Idealism and the Chase for Change" (2004). "Matters of Life and Death" (Radcliffe Publishing, London 2007), is the description of a journey towards death accompanied by the words of poets, writers and thinkers.
