Autrice di saggi e romanzi ha studiato a New York e in seguito si è trasferita a Parigi, dove vive. Scrive principalmente in francese e traduce poi la propria opera in inglese. I suoi romanzi hanno ottenuto numerosi premi tra cui il Prix Goncourt des Lycéens e sono state tradotti in molte lingue tra cui il cinese e il russo.
Il suo romanzo "Un difetto impercettibile" ha ottenuto il Prix Femina ed è stata selezionato per L'Orange Prize 2008. Nel 2007 ha ricevuto un dottorato honoris causa dall'Università di Liegi e uno nel 2010 dall'Università di Ottawa.
Author of essays and novels, she studied in New York and then moved to Paris where she still lives. She writes mainly in French and translates her works into English. Her novels have won several prizes including the Prix Goncourt des Lycéens and have been translated into several languages, including Chinese and Russian.
Her novel "Lignes de faille" has been awarded the Prix Femina and selected for the 2008 Orange Prize. In 2007, she received an honorary doctorate from the University of Liège, and in 2010 she received another one from the University of Ottawa.
