Maureen Wheeler è nata a Belfast. All'età di vent'anni si è trasferita a Londra dove ha incontrato Tony Wheeler, con il quale ha compiuto nel 1972 un lungo viaggio in Asia. La guida "Across Asia on the Cheap", scritta al termine del viaggio, è stato il primo titolo della casa editrice Lonely Planet. Maureen Wheeler was born in Belfast. When she was twenty she moved to London where she met Tony Wheeler, with whom she went on a long journey around Asia. The guide "Across Asia on the cheap", written at the end of the journey, was the first title of the publishing house Lonely Planet. In the book "Travel with children", Maureen collected her experience accumulated in many years of travelling with her two children.
