Annika Thor è nata nel 1950 a Goteborg, in Svezia, dove è cresciuta. Nel suo paese, oltre che come scrittrice per ragazzi, è molto nota per la sua attività cinematografica e per le sue opere teatrali. Con il suo romanzo d'esordio, "Un'isola nel mare", ha ricevuto numerosi premi in patria e in Germania. In Italia sono usciti i primi due libri della storia dedicata a Steffi e Nelli, due sorelline ebree austriache accolte da due diverse famiglie su un'isola al largo di Goteborg. Le due sorelle fanno parte di un folto gruppo di bambini strappati alle persecuzioni naziste e ospitati in Svezia per un lungo periodo. Grazie alla straordinaria sensibilità e alla potente forza espressiva, Annika Thor riesce a raccontare lo stato d'animo delle due bambine, le difficoltà di inserimento, la nostalgia per i loro genitori lontani e nello stesso tempo una delle più tragiche vicende della recente storia europea.
Annika Thor was born and grew up in Goteborg - Sweden - in 1950. In her Country, besides being a children's books writer, she is also very popular for her cinema and theatre production. With her first novel, "A Faraway Island", she was awarded many prizes both in Sweden and Germany. In Italy two of her books about Steffi and Nelli (two Austrian-Jewish little sisters accommodated in two different families on an island off the Goteborg coast) have been published . The two sisters are amongst the many children who managed to escape the Nazi persecutions and who were accommodated in Sweden for a long period of time. Thanks to her extraordinary sensitivity and her powerful expressiveness, Annika Thor manages to tell the innermost feelings of the two little girls, their difficulties in adapting to a new society, their longing for their faraway parents.
