Nato a Dorchester, Massachusetts, nel 1966, Dennis Lehane è annoverato tra i migliori autori di thriller. Di origine irlandese, ha studiato letteratura inglese, americana e scrittura creativa. Prima di dedicarsi alla scrittura ha fatto vari lavori. Ora insegna scrittura creativa avanzata all'Università di Harvard e vive a Boston. Ha scritto sette romanzi a metà tra il thriller tradizionale e il romanzo noir di indagine sociologica e i suoi libri sono stati tradotti in 22 lingue. Ambienta da sempre le sue storie nell'amata-odiata Boston, osservata, però, da una prospettiva particolare: quella di chi è cresciuto a Dorchester e ha avuto la possibilità di scoprirne meglio sia i lati positivi sia i lati negativi, poi perfettamente trasposti nelle descrizioni che arricchiscono i suoi libri, conferendo loro un autentico sapore di verità. Dopo i primi riconoscimenti, il successo internazionale arriva con "La morte non dimentica", che è stato finalista per il PEN/Winship Award e ha vinto l'Anthony Award, il Barry Award, il Massachusetts Book Award e il Prix Mystere de la Critique. Il film "Mystic River", tratto dal romanzo e diretto da Clint Eastwood, con protagonisti Sean Penn, Kevin Bacon e Tim Robbins, è stato premiato con due Oscar e nominato per altri quattro. Born in Dorchester, Massachusetts, in 1966 Dennis Lehane is regarded as one of the best thriller authors. Of Irish origin, he studied English and American Literature and Creative Writing. Before taking up writing he worked many jobs. He now teaches advanced creative writing at Harvard University and lives in Boston. He wrote seven novels poised between traditional thriller and sociological enquiry noir genre, and his books have been translated in 22 languages. His stories are always set in his beloved/hated Boston, seen from a peculiar perspective: that of one who grew up in Dorchester and had the opportunity to appreciate in a better way its positive as well as its negative aspects. The descriptions in his books are enriched by this dual appreciation, thus making them really truthful. After a few national awards, he is internationally acclaimed with "Mystic River", short listed for PEN/Winship Award and Anthony Award, Barry Award, Massachusetts Book Award and Prix Mystere de la Critique. The homonymous film, adapted from the novel and directed by Clint Eastwood starring Sean Penn, Kevin Bacon and Tim Robbins, received two Oscars and short listed for another four. Currently, other books by Lehane are being adapted for the big screen.
