Posy Simmonds è nata nel 1945, è cresciuta in una fattoria del Berkshire, e si è poi diplomata alla London's Central School for Art and Design. Ha esordito pubblicando i primi fumetti su "The Sun" e "The Guardian". Nel maggio del 1977 ha creato per "The Guardian" la serie "The Silent Three" che ha consolidato il suo sodalizio col quotidiano inglese. Nel 2001 in Italia è uscita la graphic-novel "Gemma Bovary", mentre "Tamara Drewe" è stato pubblicato a puntate tra il 2005 e il 2006 sul quotidiano inglese "The Guardian". L'ultima grafic-novel della Simmonds, pubblicata in Italia da Nottetempo, è divenuta anche una black comedy di spirito tipicamente inglese che ha ottenuto un grande successo al festival di Cannes 2010.

She made her debut with some comic strips published in "The Sun" and "The Guardian". In May 1977 for "The Guardian" she created the series "The Silent Three" which strengthen her collaboration the English newspaper. In 2001 her graphic-novel "Gemma Bovary" was published in Italy while her "Tamara Drewe" was published by "The Guardian". Simmonds' latest graphic novel, a typically-English black comedy, was met with great success at the 2011 Cannes Festival.
