Kamel Daoud, nato a Mostaganem, in Algeria, nel 1970, è giornalista e scrittore e da più di dodici anni tiene sul "Quotidien d'Oran" la seguitissima rubrica "Raina Raikoum". Editorialista anche presso testate quali "Algérie-focus" e "Slate Afrique", ha pubblicato le raccolte di racconti "L'Arabe et le vaste pays de ô" (2008) e "La Préface du Nègre", quest'ultima uscita poi in Francia col titolo "Minotaure 504" (2011) e selezionata nello stesso anno per il Prix Goncourt de la nouvelle. "Il caso Meursault" è il suo primo, acclamato romanzo, in testa alle classifiche dei best seller francesi e in corso di pubblicazione in 13 paesi, tra cui Stati Uniti, Inghilterra e Germania. Grazie al libro, salutato dal "New Yorker" come «un grande romanzo che riscrive lo "Straniero" di Camus dal punto di vita delle vittime arabe silenziose», l'autore si è aggiudicato nel 2015 il Prix Goncourt opera prima, dopo aver vinto il Prix des cinq continents de la Francophonie 2014 e il Premio François Mauriac 2014.(foto: Twitter @daoud_kamel)
Kamel Daoud, born on June 17, 1970 is an Algerian writer and journalist. He was born in Mostaganem Algeria. Daoud edits the French language daily "Le quotidien d'Oran" where he contributes a popular chronique or tart commentary on the news under the title "Raina Raikoum" ("My Opinion, Your Opinion") in French. Daoud's debut novel "The Mersault Investigation" won the Goncourt prize for first novel and the prix François Mauriac. In December 2014, Islamist politician Abdelfattah Hamadache, a member of the Free Awakening Front party, called for Daoud to be executed for blasphemy for the publication of Meursault, contre-enquête and described Daoud as a «deviant creature» and a «collaborator». Daoud subsequently defended his book, stating that «It was a fictional character in the novel who said these things, not me. If we judge people on the basis of characters in their books, we will be facing dark times in Algeria».
