Jami Attenberg ha scritto di sessualità, tecnologia, design, libri, televisione e costume per quotidiani e periodici ("The New York Times", "The Wall Street Journal", "Salon", "Print", "The Hairpin", "Vogue", "Elle", e molti altri). Laureata alla John Hopkins University, autrice di cinque romanzi, ha firmato contributi per numerose antologie e realizzato insieme all'artista Kees Moerbeek il libro pop-up "Wicked. The Musical" (2009), un originalissimo compendio di uno dei più celebri musical messi in scena a Broadway negli ultimi decenni. Al 2006 risale la sua prima raccolta di racconti, "Instant Love"; al 2012 il suo terzo romanzo, "I Middlestein", apparso nella lista dei bestseller del "New York Times" e tradotto in Inghilterra, Taiwan, Russia, Italia, Francia, Turchia, Olanda, Germania e Israele. L'opera, che ha raccolto il favore di scrittori come Jonathan Franzen, è l'indimenticabile ritratto di una famiglia ebrea della medio-borghesia di Chicago, messa in crisi, dopo trent'anni di felice convivenza, dalla bulimia della madre. Con "Santa Mazie", pubblicato per la prima volta in Italia nel 2016, Attenberg firma una biografia romanzata della celebre newyorkese Mazie Phillips-Gordon, meglio nota come la 'regina della Bowery' (un quartiere di Manhattan), rievocando attraverso gli occhi di una bigliettaia anticonformista adorata da barboni, poveri e diseredati, la New York della Grande Depressione.

A graduate of John Hopkins University and author of five novels, she has contributed to many anthologies and, together with the artist, Kees Moerbeek, she created the pop-up book "Wicked. In 2006, she released her first short story collection, "Instant Love". in 2012, her third novel, "The Middlesteins", appeared on the "New York Times" bestseller list and was translated in France, Italy, Russia, Taiwan, Turkey, the Netherlands, Germany and Israel. The book, which was acclaimed by writers such as Jonathan Franzen, is an unforgettable portrait of a middle-class Jewish family in Chicago that is thrown into chaos after thirty years of happy coexistence through bulimia.
