Originaria dell'East Midlands, Louise Doughty è cresciuta nella contea di Rutland, una zona rurale dell'Inghilterra che in seguito ha fatto da sfondo al suo terzo romanzo, "Honey-Dew". Dopo aver conseguito un Master of Arts in Scrittura creativa presso l'University of East Anglia, si è trasferita a Londra e ha lavorato come insegnante e come segretaria. Quest'ultima occupazione ha ispirato il suo romanzo d'esordio, "Crazy Paving" (1995), una commedia nera in cui coabitano varie suggestioni, dalla teoria del caos al terrorismo urbano. All'opera seguono il perturbante "Dance With Me" (1996) e il già citato "Honey-Dew" (1998), una sagace satira del mistery inglese. La consacrazione definitiva avviene grazie ai successivi "Fires in the Dark" (2003), "Stone Cradle" (2006), "Whatever You Love" (2010) e al bestseller "Apple Tree Yard" ("Fino in fondo", 2013), un thriller tradotto in ben ventisei lingue e in corso di adattamento per la televisione. Nel 2007 ha pubblicato il suo primo libro di non-fiction, "A Novel in a Year", una raccolta di articoli che porta il nome della sua popolarissima rubrica sul "Daily Telegraph". Oltre che collaborare in pianta stabile con la BBC come giornalista e opinionista radiofonica, continua a occuparsi di critica letteraria per importanti testate ("The Guardian", "The Independent", "The Daily Telegraph", "The Mail on Sunday"). Nel 2016 è stato tradotto in Italia "Nel nome di mia figlia", romanzo finalista al Costa Novel Award e all'Orange Prize for Fiction.
Originally from the East Midlands, Louise Doughty grew up in Rutland, a rural area of England which would later serve as the backdrop to the third novel, "Honey-Dew". After completing an MA in Creative Writing at the University of East Anglia, she moved to London where she had a number of different jobs, including teaching and secretary work. The latter locally inspired her debut novel, "Crazy Paving" (1995), a black comedy with themes that range from from chaos theory to urban terrorism. Following that was "Dance With Me" (1996) and the aforementioned "Honey-Dew" (1998), a witty take on the traditional English murder mystery novel. Further success came with "Fires in the Dark" (2003), "Stone Cradle" (2006), "Whatever You Love" (2010) and the bestseller "Apple Tree Yard" ("Fino in fondo", 2013), a thriller that has been translated into 26 languages and is being adapted for television. In 2007 she published her first non-fiction book, "A Novel in a Year", collection of articles taken from her popular column in the "Daily Telegraph". In addition to her work the BBC as a radio journalist and commentator, she also contributes literary criticism pieces for major newspapers ("The Guardian", "The Independent", "The Daily Telegraph", "The Mail on Sunday"). In 2016 "Whatever You Love", a finalist in the Costa Novel Award and Orange Prize for Fiction, was translated into Italian under the title "Nel nome di mia figlia".
