Wolf Erlbruch è uno dei più importanti disegnatori europei del nostro tempo. Ha eseguito studi di arti grafiche presso la Folkwanschule fur Gestaltung di Essen-Werden. Dal 1974 fa il disegnatore freelance ed è professore di disegno presso l'Università di Wuppertal. Nel 1985 inizia a illustrare romanzi per bambini, dove sviluppa uno stile tutto proprio, originale e intelligente, pieno di elementi personalissimi. Nel 1990 inizia a scrivere i suoi romanzi, con "Die fürchterlichten Fünf" (I terribili cinque), anche illustrato da lui. Negli anni novanta continua sia con il suo lavoro d'illustratore che quello di scrittore, ricevendo numerosi premi internazionali, tra essi il Bologna Ragazzi nel 2004 per "La grande domanda" (E/O, 2004) e il prestigioso Hans Christian Andersen nel 2006 per "La notte" (E/O, 2006), entrambi scritti e illustrati da lui.
Wolf Erlbruch is one of the most prestigious contemporary European illustrators. He studied Graphic Arts at Folkwanschule fur Gestaltung in Essen-Werden. In 1974 he started working as freelance illustrator and teaching Drawing at the University of Wuppertal. In 1985 he began illustrating children's books where he developed his own original and intelligent style, characterized by personal elements. In 1990 he started writing his first novels with "Die fürchterlichten Fünf" (The Terrible Five) that he then illustrated. In the 1990's he carried on writing and illustrating, winning several international prizes including the Bologna Ragazzi Award (2004) with "The Big Question" (E/O, 2004) and the prestigious Hans Christian Andersen in 2006 with "Nachts" (The Night) (E/O, 2006), both written and illustrated by him.
