L'attività di scrittore di Jim Forest comincia in New-Jersey all'età cinque anni, nel 1946, quando produce un giornalino per la famiglia, scritto a mano usando un proprio alfabeto. Era una pubblicazione eccellente la cui unica imperfezione era che nessuno avrebbe potuto leggerlo.
Cattolico dal 1960, la sua vita religiosa prende un'altra direzione nel 1988 quando lui e la moglie, Nancy, furono accolti nella chiesa ortodossa. Jim Forest è ora segretario della Comunità Ortodossa di pace e pubblica il relativo giornale, "In Communion". È stato un reporter per un quotidiano di New York City ed ha pubblicato un certo numero di riviste e di giornali. È stato inoltre nello staff di molte organizzazioni di pace, interesse nato nella sua vita mentre prestava servizio nella marina degli Stati Uniti. Jim è l'autore di molti libri, il più recente "Praying with Icons" and "The Ladder of the Beatitudes". Jim Forest's writing career started in New Jersey in 1946 when, at the age of five, he produced a journal for his family, handwritten using an alphabet of his own invention. It was a perfect publication whose only imperfection was the fact that no one could read it. A Catholic since 1960, his religious life changed in 1988 when he and his wife Nancy were welcomed into the Orthodox Church. Jim Forest is currently the secretary of the Orthodox Peace Fellowship for which he publishes the newspaper "In Communion". He was a reporter for the daily of New York City and published several magazines and newspapers. He has also worked for many peace organizations, an interested that he developed while serving in the US navy. He has authored many books and his latest are "Praying with Icons" and "The Ladder of the Beatitudes". In 1989 he was the recipient of The Peacemaker Prize awarded by the Institute of International Studies for Peace of the University of Notre Dame. He currently lives in the Netherlands, not too far from Amsterdam.
