Tobias Wolff lives in New York and lectures in Satnford University. He wrote several novels, short stories and essays. He is considered the most important short stories writer in the United States and has been compared to Carver and Cheever. In 1994 he was awarded the Pen/Faulkner Award for the best Work of Fiction for his novel "The Barracks Thief", a story set during the Vietnam War. His memoir "This Boy's Life" inspired a film starring Ellen Barkin and Robert De Niro. His second memoir, "In Pharaoh's Army. Memories of the Lost War", which tells about his experience during the Vietnam war, was chosen as a finalist for the Booker Prize. The stories in "The Night in Question" - three of which have been selected for the Best American series - have appeared in periodicals such as "The New Yorker" and "Esquire".
