Ornela Vorpsi è nata nel '68 a Tirana; a 22 anni è fuggita in Italia e ha raggiunto Milano, dove ha frequentato l'Accademia di Belle Arti e dove è rimasta per sei anni. Da 10 anni vive a Parigi ma, per ora, la sua lingua di scrittura rimane l'italiano. Fotografa di fama mondiale, ha esordito con "Il paese dove non si muore mai", che ha riscosso un notevole successo. E in Albania? «L'unico Paese dove non ho concesso i diritti del mio libro» dice, «non sono pronta ad affrontare l´opinione pubblica albanese. I miei libri in Albania sono già stati molto criticati, c'è chi si è sentito offeso». Scrive in italiano, quindi: per mettere un mare tra lei e il suo Paese.
Ornella Vorpsi was born in '68 in Tirana; when she was 22 she fled to Italy and reached Milan, where she attended the Academy of Fine Arts and where she stayed for 6 years. She has been living in France for 10 years, but her writing language is Italian. And what about Albania? It is the only country where she did not allow her book to be published: she said she's not prepared to face Albania's public opinion, since her books have been highly criticized in Albania. Writing in Italian, then, is her way to raise a barrier between her and her own country.
