Nato a Duvno in Bosnia Erzegovina nel 1953, Karahasan Dzevad è uno scrittore e drammaturgo serbo di fama mondiale. Laureatosi in Letteratura Comparata e Teatro presso l'Università di Sarajevo e conseguito il dottorato in Drammaturgia e Storia del Teatro a Zagabria, per alcuni anni lavora come drammaturgo per il Teatro Nazionale di Zenica dirigendo anche due riviste di letteratura e arte "Odjek" e "Izraz". Dal 1986 fino all'inizio della guerra insegna all'Università di Sarajevo; nel 1993 si trasferisce a Salisburgo dove diventa lettore presso l'Università continuando ad interessarsi della situazione nel suo paese e a pronunciarsi a favore di uno stato multietnico dalle colonne di molti giornali e riviste europee con cui collabora regolarmente come "MicroMega" e "Les Temps Modernes". Nel 2004 vince il Leipzig Book Price for European Understanding con la raccolta di saggi "Knjiga vrtova" (The Book of the Garden). Attualmente insegna Drammaturgia all'Università di Göttingen, dove vive. In Italia sono stati pubblicati "Il divano orientale" (1997) e "Il centro del mondo" (1997), infine un suo testo teatrale "Al limitare del deserto" è stato messo in scena dal gruppo Gioco Vita.
Born in Duvno in Bosnia Herzegovina in 1953, Darahasan Dzevad is a world-famous Serbian writer and playwright. A graduate in Comparative Literature and Theatre at the University of Sarajevo and a researcher in Dramaturgy and History of Theatre in Zagreb, he worked for a few years for the National Theatre in Zenica also editing two literary and art magazines "Odjek" and "Izraz". From 1986 until the beginning of the war he taught at the University of Sarajevo. In 1993 he moved to Salzburg where he was appointed University lector keeping an interest in the situation of his country and promoting a multiethnic society in the columns of many European magazines and dailies for which he regularly writes including "MicroMega" and "Les Temps Modernes". In 2004 he won the Leipzig Book Prize for European Understanding with the collection of essays "Knjga vrtova" (The Book of Garden). He currently teaches Dramaturgy at the University of Göttingen where he lives. In Italy he published "Il divano orientale" (1997) and "Il centro del mondo" (1997), and his play "Al limitare del deserto" was staged by Gioco Vita.
