Ioanna Karistiani, considerata la più importante scrittrice greca contemporanea, è nata Chanià, nell'isola di Creta, e vive ad Atene. Oltre che autrice di romanzi è illustratrice e ha collaborato con numerose testate greche e straniere. Ha scritto sceneggiature cinematografiche per diversi registi, tra cui quella del film "Le spose", diretto da Pandelìs Vùlgaris e prodotto da Martin Scorsese, ed "Estrella mi vida", di Costas Gravas. Nel 1995 ha pubblicato il suo primo libro, la raccolta di racconti "La signora Kataki". Il romanzo "L'isola dei gelsomini" è stato tradotto in diversi Paesi d'Europa. Nel 2000 è uscito il suo secondo romanzo "Il vestito in terra", che in Grecia ha ottenuto il primo premio della prestigiosa rivista letteraria "Diavazo". Con "Le catene del mare" ha vinto il Premio nazionale per il miglior romanzo greco del 2007.
Ioanna Karistani, considered the most important contemporary Greek writer, was born in Chania (Crete) and now lives in Athens. Besides being a writer, she is also an illustrator and has worked with several Greek and foreign newspapers. She has written screenplays for several directors, including the screenplay for "The Brides", directed by Pandelis Vulgaris and produced by Matin Scorsese, and "Estrella mi vida" by Costas Gravas. In 1995, she published her first book, a collection of short stories, "I Kyria Kataki" (Ms. Kataki). Her novel "The Jasmine Isle" has been translated into several European languages. In 2000, she published her second novel, "Suit in the Ground", which was awarded a prize by the prestigious Greek literary magazine "Diavazo". In 2007, with "Le Catene del Mare" (The Sea Chains), she won the Best Novel Prize in Greece.
