Herman Koch nato ad Arnhem in Olanda nel 1953 è autore televisivo, giornalista e romanziere. Al suo romanzo d'esordio "Red ons, Maria Montanelli" (1989) sono seguiti "Eten met Emma" (2000), "Odessa Star" (2003) e "Denken aan Bruce Kennedy" (2005). Il suo ultimo romanzo, "La cena", uscito in Olanda nel gennaio 2009, ha scalato le classifiche editoriali vendendo in pochi mesi oltre 250.000 copie. Sorpresa editoriale dell'anno, vincitore del Premio del pubblico 2009, "La cena" è stato conteso dalle case editrici di tutto il mondo ed è pubblicato in undici paesi, tra cui Stati Uniti, Francia, Gran Bretagna. In Italia è edito dalla casa editrice Neri Pozza, che nel settembre 2011 ha pubblicato "Villetta con piscina".

His novel "Het diner", published in the Netherlands in 2009, climbed the best seller lists, selling over 250.000 copies in only a few months. The editorial surprise of the year, winner of the 2009 Audience Award, "Het diner" was faught over by the publishers from all over the world and was published in eleven countries, including the United States, France, Great Britain. In Italy it is published by Neri Pozza.
