«For me - said Maylis de Kerangal in an interview - literature is a way to probe and question the contemporary world. A novel only documents the journey that I took to write it, trying to learn something from my initial ignorance. As a result, not only did I gain some technical knowledge but also an emotional one». Born in Tolone and raised in Le Havre, in 2010 she won le Prix Médicis with "Nascita di un ponte". She also wrote "Je marche sous un ciel de traîne" (2000), "La vie voyageuse" (2003), "Corniche Kennedy" (2008) - as well as the collection of short stories "Ni fleurs ni couronnes" (2006) and the short story "Tangente vers l'est" (2012). With the multi-award winning "Riparare i viventi" she gave readers a novel "beautiful as an ancient tragedy" ("L'Express") where the last twenty-four hours of Simon Limbres, a young man in irreversible coma after an accident, echo in the voices and emotions of the people surrounding him in his last hours, from his parents to the medical team in the hospital, in a liminal space poised between life and death.
