Nato a Ferrara nel 1951, si è laureato in Architettura a Firenze. Negli anni dell'architettura radicale e sperimentale è stato tra i protagonisti di movimenti come Cavart, Alchimia e Memphis. Ha disegnato prodotti per Artemide, Dada Cucine, Kartell, Matsushita, Mauser, Poltrona Frau e Olivetti, elaborando teorie sull'evoluzione dell'ambiente di lavoro e sviluppando progetti sperimentali per Compaq Computers, Philips, Siemens, Vitra. Ha progettato soprattutto edifici per uffici, realizzati in Giappone, Germania e Italia. Dal 1999 è stato incaricato della riqualificazione di alcune centrali elettriche dell'Enel. Tanti suoi interni per servizi sono in uso per Deutsche Bank, Deutsche Bundesbahn, Enel, Poste Italiane, Telecom Italia, Mandarina Duck, Banca Popolare di Lodi e altri istituti italiani ed esteri. Ha progettato edifici per musei pubblici e privati e curato allestimenti di mostre d'arte e design. Il lavoro professionale è stato sempre accompagnato dalla ricerca personale sui temi del progetto, del disegno, della tecnologia e dell'artigianato. Nel 1990 ha creato 'Produzione Privata', una piccola impresa nel cui ambito disegna prodotti che, senza committente, vengono realizzati impiegando tecniche e mestieri artigianali. Il suo studio MDL Srl ha sede a Milano e Roma. Tra i numerosi riconoscimenti internazionali i premi Good Design (Giappone), Compasso d'Oro, Premio Smau, Office Design Eimu (Italia), Deutsche Auswahl, IF Hannover, Design Plus, Roter Punkt, Design team of the Year 1997 (Germania). Nel 2000 è stato insignito della onorificenza di Ufficiale della Repubblica Italiana per meriti nel campo del design e dell'architettura.
Michele De Lucchi was born in Ferrara in 1951 and he was graduated in architecture in Florence. In the years of experimental and radical architecture he was one of the leading figures in movements such as Cavart, Alchimia and Memphis. De Lucchi has designed products for Artemide, Dada Cucine, Kartell, Matsushita, Mauser, Poltrona Frau, Olivetti for which he has been the Design Manager since 1992. He elaborated various personal theories on the evolution of the work environment and has developed experimental projects for Compaq Computers, Philips, Siemens and Vitra. He mainly planned office buildings, constructed in Japan, Germany and Italy. Since 1999 he has dealt with the upgrading of some Enel power stations. Many of his interiors for various services are currently used by Deutsche Bank, Deutsche Bundesbahn, Enel, Poste Italiane, Telecom Italia, Mandarina Duck, Banca Popolare of Lodi and other Italian and foreign institutions. He has planned buildings for private and public museums. He has supervised the mounting of many exhibitions of art and design. His professional career has always been accompanied by his personal research on projects, design, technology and handicraft themes. In 1990 he created Produzione Privata, a small business within which Michele De Lucchi designs products, without commission, that are made using handcrafted techniques and jobs. His studio MDL Srl is based in Milan and Rome. Amongst his numerous international prizes are Good Design (Japan), Compasso d'Oro, Premio Smau, Office Design Eimu (Italy), Deutsche Auswahl, IF Hannover, Design Plus, Roter Punkt, Design team of the Year 1997 (Germany). In 2000 he was awarded the decoration of Official of the Italian Republic by President Ciampi, for his merits in the fields of design and architecture.
