Puglisi, Fabrizio

A pianist and composer, in 1987 he enrolled at DAMS Bologna, the city in which he resides, graduating with honours in ' 95 with a thesis on Cecil Taylor. Between 1997 and 2003, he settled for some time in Amsterdam, where he worked with some musicians from the Dutch scene such as Tristan Honsinger, Han Bennink, Ernst Glerum, Ab Baars, Sean Bergin, Ernst Reijseger and Tobias Delius. The Dutch big band Tetzepi commissioned three of his works ("Tricofobia", "Il Satiro" and "Survivors of the 00 age") which were performed in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany, and recorded on the CDs "Crush" and "Seed". He has worked with many artists on the international scene, he has performed at festivals in the United States, Canada, Spain, Germany, Norway, France, Netherlands, Belgium, Portugal, Austria, Slovenia, Poland, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, Georgia, Senegal, Egypt, Morocco, Mexico, and has recorded over forty CDs for the American label Cuneiform, the English label RareNoise, the Dutch labels Trytone and Evil Rabbit, the Spanish label New Mood Jazz and the Italian labels RAI Trade, El Gallo Rojo and Caligula. He has been a guest on Rai Radio 3 several times ("Invenzioni a due voci", "Radiotre Suite", "Battiti", "I Concerti del Quirinale") and was a member of the Collettivo Bassesfere, an association of musicians active in Bologna since 1992 for the development and diffusion of improvised music, and research. He has held ensemble music workshops at the Scuola Popolare di Musica 'Ivan Illich' in Bologna since 1998. He teaches Jazz piano at the Conservatorio 'A.Scontrino' in Trapani and at the Siena Jazz University. An eclectic musician, he has always loved crossing into the territories of other artistic languages, interacting with the dances and choreography of Giorgio Rossi, Ambra Senatore, Barbara Toma, Hisako Horikawa and Karamba Mane or collaborating with actors, poets, writers, directors and visual artists.(photo: © Festivaletteratura)
