Christian Elia ha realizzato reportage in più di quaranta Paesi, raccontando i conflitti e le violazioni dei diritti umani dalla Striscia di Gaza all'Afghanistan, dall'Iraq al Kurdistan. Per nove anni ha collaborato come inviato per E, il mensile di Emergency, ed è stato tra i fondatori di PeaceReporter. È autore dei libri Il respiro di Poveglia (2017, con Beatrice Mancini), Walking the line (2018, con Cecilia Dalla Negra e Gianluca Cecere), Oltre i muri (2019) e Grande Padre. Viaggio nella memoria dell'Albania (2022, con Camilla de Maffei), tutti pubblicati da Milieu Edizioni. In passato ha realizzato i documentari The Empty House (insieme a Gianluca Cecere, Angelo Miotto e Claudia Pozzoli) e A different crisis. I suoi lavori gli sono valsi il Premio Baldoni, il Premio Giornalisti del Mediterraneo, l'IMMaginario DOC Festival, una menzione speciale della giuria al Siani Reportage Prize, il Premio "il Reportage" e il Premio #dipubblicodominio. Insieme ad Angelo Miotto ha fondato e condirige dal 2013 la rivista online Q Code Magazine; è inoltre direttore dal 2020 di ArabPop, una rivista dedicata alle arti e alle letterature arabe contemporanee.

In addition to serving as a correspondent for PeaceReporter and "E-il mensile" in the Middle East, the Balkans and the Mediterranean, has reported in more than 40 countries. Thanks to his work on the Arab uprisings, he won the Premio Baldoni 2011 and the Premio Giornalisti del Mediterraneo 2012. He is author of the works "Oltre il muro" and "Storie in fuorigioco" (which has been adapted into a play), of the documentaries "The Empty House" (winner of the IMMaginario Festival 2013, finalist at the Visa pour l'Image di Perpignan and the Bellaria Film Festival nel 2010) and "A different crisis" (winner of the IMMaginario Festival 2013 and special jury mention at that Siani Reportage Prize of the same year). In addition to co-editing the online magazine "Q Code Magazine", he contributes to a number of leading Italian newspapers.
