Emanuele Trevi, one of the most promising reviewers of the new generation, was born in Rome in 1964. He translated and edited Italian and French classics, including books by Leopardi, Salgari and twentieth century Italian authors. He is part of the editorial committee for Quiritta Publishers. He writes for the newspaper "il manifesto" and collaborates in the radio programme "Lucifero" (RAI TRE), with a section devoted to poetry. His book "Istruzioni per l'uso del lupo" was very well received. On its publication this book - echoing "Steiner" - was praised by the critics in the most prestigious literary magazines. Trevi suggested an escape from the acquired knowledge and the criticism disciplines in favour of a philosophy of the heart, thus acknowledging the disarming inability to approach literature and life, despite the occasional enlightened spell one may encounter. Trevi suggests reading without prejudices, reading from within literature and at the same time from the ephemeral and volatile experience derived from life. With "Musica Distante", Trevi goes back to his reflections on knowledge. His one is not an intellectual reflection. He does not think about knowledge: he experiences knowledge. He does not devise a method for reading: he reads. He reads the words of a story that comes from within Western culture, a story covertly alive and overtly spiritual, a Christian spirituality that has built two millennia of human history, going through paganism and gnosis, changing configuration and perspective. Emanuele Trevi is editor of "Nuovi Argomenti". He was part of the committee for the Calvino Prize 2001 and the Alice Prize 2002.
